Dinner Event
Innovation and Mass Timber: The Case for Tall Wood Buildings
Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Tracey MacTavish has worked closely with Michael Green (McFarlane Green + Biggar ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN) to develop the context and detail for THE CASE FOR TALL WOOD BUILDINGS, a feasibility study that explored the large scale use of Mass Timber. Tracey will, with Benny Neylon from Equilibrium Consulting, discuss the study, its objectives and findings, and offer insight into how thinking about wood differently will change the face of our construction industry… completely.

Some questions to be addressed:

  • What is Tall Wood?
  • What are Mass Timber Panels?
  • Why is Tall Wood being talked about now?
  • How is Tall Wood constructed?
  • What are the potential cost benefits?

MGB and EQ have collaborated on a number of built projects including the 2009 RAIC Innovation Award winning Prince George Airport and current projects that include: North Vancouver Civic Centre Revitalization, Vancouver Ronald McDonald House, College of New Caledonia Trades School, Fort McMurray Airport and numerous private houses.
Members of both firms lecture extensively for the Canadian Wood Council and are actively involved in the promotion of the use of wood in architecture. They are globally recognized innovators in the use of timber in long span structures with a unique perspective on how to employ the benefits of wood while giving it the respect of weather protection and purpose in buildings.

All attendees will earn 2 Continuing Professional Development points & receive free passes to attend Buildex Vancouver!
